Toorak Uniting Church – Update – Pentecost 23

1 November 2015

Previous Item Page Top Next Item Thank you to the congregation
Last Sunday we enjoyed a marvelous congregational lunch celebrating the ministry of the Stahlbergs and wished them well on their journey back to Denver, Colorado. Barbara McKinnon and Shirley Farrow wish to thank the many helpers who contributed both food and labour on the day. In particular they would like to thank James Widdowson and Robert Barber for assisting with setting up, the Mumford/Sennitt family for organizing and operating the BBQ, Annette Davies for assisting with food preparation, Milton, Jacqui and Craig Simondson, Jenny and Robin Stewardson, Gilbert Farrow and Christine and Garry Brown for their magnificent work clearing and washing up. We were also fortunate to enjoy exotic Indonesian sweets provided by our visiting Indonesian friends, in addition to the tasty salads provided by Anna Field, Lynn McAlister and Margaret Billson.

Previous Item Page Top Next Item Food for Friends
The annual Food for Friends appeal takes place from Friday, November 27th to Sunday, December 6th. "Food for Friends" is an ecumenical appeal that asks Safeway customers to donate a purchased item which is then passed on to one of a number of frontline ecumenical charities. Last year, the appeal raised approximately $40000 worth of goods for needy families. The success of the appeal lies in the volunteers who stand at the entrance to the Safeway supermarkets in Hawksburn and the Toorak Village and hand out leaflets informing shoppers about the appeal and then receive donated goods in a prominently positioned trolley. If you are able to volunteer your time, please contact Barbara McKinnon (ph 0405987890 or Barbara.mckinnon@bigpond.com) and let her know your availability. Alternatively, you can add your name to the sign up board at the rear of the church. Volunteers are sought for the following timeslots:

Sunset in the Rose Garden by Tea ErcolesCorner of our Eden – Solo exhibition by Tea Ercoles

Artist Statement
The works on show are paintings and a large outdoor mosaic inspired by my garden.

My late husband and I loved our garden and we lovingly nurtured it together and took pride in watching it grow into what it is today. It is full of roses, lavender , lisianthus, agapanthus, cherry blossoms, Irises, magnolias and fruit trees.

All year round it continues to influence my work with its array of colour and beautiful fragrances.

The paintings are developed by firstly letting the colour flow and take its own characteristic, then using different mediums to push or pull color and form to the foreground, middle ground and background. Some of the works also feature a three dimensional textural effect created by thick impastos.

I feel they have a beautiful softness about them with a semi abstract composition. All that is missing is the fragrance!

This exhibition is mounted as a fundraiser for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
